Local “Bluesion” Artist Jesse Christen Releases New Album 11.15.24

“Bluesion”, a funny take on the musical label Fusion is exactly how to describe local artist Jesse Christen’s upcoming release “Don’t Forget to Tip the Band”.  Featuring nine songs written by Jesse and one lively version of Remington Ride by Hank Penny and Herb Remington, this album blends various musical styles with Jesse’s signature blues-based sound taking you on a fantastic ride through diverse genres and emotions.  “I wanted to sound like a classic blues band playing different styles of music”, Jesse says. “There’s a zydeco song, some progressive songs, blues songs with jazz inspired chord changes and other fun stuff. It’s exactly the musical statement I wanted to make.”  Local musicians Reuben Rodriguez on bass and Dan Heier on drums round out the band on this album which was recorded in Sioux Falls by Bret Ferguson with photography by Jay Pickthorn.

The album starts with “Wake up Softly”. This song pays homage to an earlier time with its smooth guitar riffs and structure while infusing modern flavors throughout. It’s a song that could rock you to sleep or kickstart your day.

The album’s title track “Don’t Forget to Tip the Band” is a rocking mixture of blues, classic rock, improvisation and pure fun.  It showcases plenty of Jesse’s sweet guitar licks, Reuben’s groovy bass lines and Dan’s funky drums.

The album finishes with Jesse’s cover of Remington Ride.  It is incredibly fun, evoking the 1950’s era of Western swing. He brings it into the 21st century with his modern tone and fresh arrangement that’ll leave you humming the tune.

Every song on this album is thoughtfully crafted and performed by exceptional musicians, showcasing Jesse’s versatility as a songwriter and musician while cohesively blending together multiple styles of music.
